As a Director of Photography I’m the one photographing with a motion picture camera (the art and science of which is known as cinematography). The title, used to designate a chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image. The term “cinematographer” applies when the director of photography and camera operator are the same person.
Three things are necessary to become a good director of photography: training, experience, and a good eye. I’m also the director whose skills include sound design and film making.
Nowadays technological advancements allow us to take our understanding of light and composition love to the next level. The DSLR generation can shoot, edit and score a film in a day, something unheard of just a few years ago.
