As a Director of Photography I’m the one photographing with a motion picture camera (the art and science of which is known as cinematography). The title, used to designate a chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image. The term “cinematographer” applies when the director of photography and camera operator are the same person.

Three things are necessary to become a good director of photography: training, experience, and a good eye. I’m also the director whose skills include photography, design and film making. May I have an unorthodox style and an unbalanced frame since sometimes I ignore the rules in a quest to define Web & EventCinematography.

Nowadays technological advancements allow us to take our love and understanding of light and composition to the next level. The DSLR generation can shoot, edit and score an HD film in a day, something unheard of just a few years ago.

I am happy to recommend Yiannis for his contribution to my wedding success. He undertook the photo-shooting and film-making. The result is better than I could ever imagine. Yiannis is the kind of person to whom you can rely on and he will never let you down. He has the ability to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera, making the whole process an amazing experience.  I certainly recommend Yiannis for any photo-shooting or film-making activity.

The creation of motion picture images. It can involve the use of film or digital imagery, with a movie camera. It is closely related to the art of still photography. So event cinematography in its strictest definition should be the use of these cinematic techniques to enhance and elaborate, the usual aspects of an event video

One of the most traditional ways to film a wedding is the Journalistic style, often referred to as documentary style.

This style follows the day as it happens either from the home visit(s) or from the guests arriving at the ceremony location. Your day is documented exactly how it happened and just about always in a linear fashion.

The difference in hiring a “professional” and “someone you know” is ultimately about how its executed. You’ll have some clips of you getting dressed with live sound, then proceed to the ceremony, the reception, and finally the exit. The only reason anyone would choose this option is because of limitations due to budget. Roughly speaking a documentary wedding film can cost  €300-€500.

Unfortunately, on the downside Journalistic wedding films are also renowned for been boring, dreary accounts of the day seen by millions as the standard of wedding videos of yesteryear. This is usually a result of an inexperienced or uninspired videographer of which, unfortunately there seems to be an abundant supply.

Defined as making a movie or feature film, within the wedding videography industry cinematic movies have become a huge success! They are captured and edited for the dramatic effect and mood of a modern feature film. Filmed with this in mind the videographer may pause the couple now and then so he can place himself in better positions, and stage some shots now and then as your photographer would, of course in such a way that it doesn’t distract from your day.

These films are often filmed with a lovely depth of field and rich picture quality. Editing is very important for this type of film and a lot of time is spent to get the feel and the mood of the film just right. Music is also more important for one of these films and you will be asked to provide a list of music for the videographer to choose from. A cinematic wedding film can run €800-€1000.

The latest and greatest style of a wedding film these days, is what is known as a Short Form Edit.

This style of film is more about telling a story of the day, anchored on an event using time shift techniques to bring emotion and style to your wedding film. It takes a lot of work to create a truly amazing Short Form and they take longer to edit than more tradition films.

As the name suggests, the short form edit is shorter than a traditional film. Short form wedding edits can run from 15 to 40 minutes. A Short Form Edit has all the key elements of the day, the emotions are deeper than a traditional film, and can be easily watched on a number of different formats such as the Internet, Facebook, iPad/iPhone, Blu-ray, as well as DVD and Bluray. (Don’t worry, you DO usually get the full ceremony and reception on a separate disc).

This is the greatest challenge for an editor. Done right a short form wedding film is the ultimate wedding film that can be watched many times and inspire on every viewing. An average price these days for a short-form is somewhere between €1200-€3000.
